Preston vs Coventry

Our prediction for this Championship match:

Preston will look to improve their form when they face Coventry City at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon. The Lilywhites have struggled recently and find themselves in the danger zone, meaning that the round 10 clash is of big importance for the home side. Despite their ups and downs, Preston will be boosted by a fully fit squad, with no new injury concerns ahead of the visit of Coventry.

The visitors, meanwhile, head into the game determined to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. The Sky Blues are also sitting just above the relegation zone and will be desperate to secure a positive result. However, they face injury setbacks with key players Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Jamie Allen, and Borges Rodrigues all out of contention. Given the high stakes for both teams and their shaky defences, a closely contested encounter is on the cards. With both sides needing a win to escape the relegation battle, we believe that there is a big value in betting on both teams to score.

How the bookies view it: In-form Preston decent value

With Preston in form and having home advantage, I thought they would be slight favourites for this one but the bookies disagree as Peso63 have them at a tempting 17/10. Coventry City are priced at 7/5 while the draw pays 23/10.

Highlighted Player (Robbie Brady):

Robbie Brady is an Irish footballer who plays for Norwich City as a winger, but he is capable of playing at left back as well. Brady began his youth career at St. Kevin’s Boys, where he was spotted by Manchester United scouts. In 2008 he joined the Old Trafford outfit at age 16.

He played for Manchester United U-18 team, but he did not make his debut for the senior team. The Irish footballer played for Hull City on loan in the 2011/2012 and the 2012/2013 Championship campaigns and in January, 2013 he signed a permanent deal with the Tigers for an undisclosed fee. Robbie Brady made his Republic of Ireland debut on 8 September, 2012, in a 4-1 win over Oman and it has to be noted that he scored one goal and provided two assists for his teammates in the victory over the Asian team.

He represented the Boys in Green at the 2016 European Championship finals and he scored the winner against Italy that helped the team make it to the knockout stages of the showpiece tournament.

Highlighted Team (Coventry):

Nicknamed the Sky Blues, Coventry City are an English football club that compete in the League One. Coventry City, who were founded on August 13, 1883 as Singers FC, wear sky blue kit when playing on home soil, whilst their away colour is white.

Aston Villa and Leicester City are considered the club’s main rivals, but they have rivalry with fellow West Midlands clubs Wallsall and Burton Albion as well. Coventry City have yet to win the Premier League trophy, but they did well to go all the way in the FA Cup in the 1986/1987 season, with the team beat Charlton Athletic in the two-legged final. They share stadium with Birmingham City, with both clubs playing their home games at St. Andrew’s Stadium.

Built in December, 1906, St. Andrew’s Stadium can hold up to 29,409 spectators. Dion Dublin is one of the most famous Coventry City players, with the legendary centre-forward scoring 61 goals in 145 appearances for the club in the league.

Recent head to head: Unlucky 13 for Coventry

The odds on a Preston win are even more puzzling when you consider their excellent record in this fixture. Coventry haven’t beaten North End in the last 13 meetings and both matches last term ended in Preston wins. They won 3-2 at Deepdale then followed it up with a 3-0 romp on the road.

Players to watch: Jak’s the lad

Milutin Osmajic scored twice in Preston’s last home game but is now serving a long ban for biting Blackburn’s Owen Beck. Emil Riis Jakobsen started up top in the draw at Burnley and could continue here, with the Dane 9/4 for anytime scorer at JLPH.

Brandon Thomas-Asante has been in decent scoring form for Coventry, netting three times in his last eight outings. He’s 9/4 to add to that tally here.

Probable line-ups

Osmajic sits this one out again while Ben Whiteman is also suspended for Preston. Will Keane, Patrick Bauer and Ched Evans are set to miss out with injuries too.

Jamie Allen, Jake Bidwell, and Raphael Rodrigues are ruled out for Coventry while Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is a doubt.

Preston vs Coventry Prediction

Preston follows an inconsistent form this Championship season. They have won two, draw three and lost four of their nine league matches and will be hoping to gain some positive momentum. On Friday, they play host to Coventry, who has won two, draw two and lost five of their nine league games.

Moving on, Preston can also rely on the recent head-to-head tradition since they won the last two clashes against Coventry in a row. In-fact they are on a 13-match unbeaten streak against Coventry. Except for the first ever clash recorded between these two at this venue, Preston have not lost a single match against Coventry.

At home, Preston is currently following a five-match unbeaten streak with four wins bagged in that period. Meanwhile, Coventry is on a three-match winless streak on the road and have won just twice in the last 11 road trips across all competitions.

By the looks of things, we are inclined to back Preston to win here. Coventry has netted goals in three of their last four road trips. Moreover, tw of their last three meetings at this venue were both teams scoring. We expect that trend to be displayed at Deepdale on Friday.
